Concert Benefits Autism Awareness

Cottontail Express train ride

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad opens their 2014 season this coming Saturday, April 19 with a spring time excursion on the Cottontail Express! -- A fun event for the kids! Easter Eggstravaganza

The 2014 Easter Eggstravaganza presented by Miller's Modification Station & West Virginia Radio Corp. - The areas largest Easter egg hunt will be on Saturday April 19th, 10am at Glendale Park.  Over 3000 Easter Eggs, the bunny will the money will be handing out gold dollar certificates from Citizens Bank of West Virginia.  Free Dairy Queen ice cream while supplies last.  Open to children 9 and under. Thank you to Elkins Parks & Recreation Commission. 

Yard Waste Collection Schedule

The City of Elkins will begin curb-side Yard Waste Collection on Monday, April 14th; monthly collection will then be held on the FIRST Tuesday of each month on the following dates this year:  May 6th, June 3rd, July 1st, August 5th, and September 2nd.  Yard waste will be collected as quickly as possible but it varies from month-to-month as to how much time it takes in each ward – due to this fact, residents of all wards are being asked to have their yard waste out by the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the above-stated collection dates; if we don’t get it that day, we will get it in the next day or two - depending on how much time the current collection is taking. 

Acceptable items include:  grass, tree, & shrub trimmings; vegetative landscaping materials; leaves & hay; plant debris; branches & brush up to 2” in diameter and 8’ in length tied with a string or twine in manageable bundles (no wires or plastic ties).

Unacceptable items include:  plastics; treated wood; construction/demolition debris; household trash; animal waste; non-organic material; yard waste containing concrete, rocks, sod, or dirt; anything over 50 pounds.

Residents may also take Yard Waste to the Waste Water Collection & Transmission Department (located at 31 Jones Drive / 304-636-2058) Mondays – Fridays from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Ticketing for Street Sweeper Parking Violations will begin Thursday May 1st in the City of Elkins. 

Tygarts Valley Little League Opening Day

2014 Tygarts Valley Little League Opening Day Saturday April 19 Remote broadcast with WDNE / WELK will be 12 Noon-2pm Lots of fun activities for the family all day long! Community Workshop on Dangers of Bath Salts

Community workshop on Tuesday, April 22. The Family Resource Network is presenting "Bath Salts and the Dangers to Our Community". The workshop will be held at the Tygart Valley Middle High School cafeteria from 4:30 to 6:30.


Ramps and Rails Festival

Relay for Life Thirty-One Bingo

The Huttonsville Correctional Center Employee Association Relay for Life will have a Thirty-One Bingo fundraiser on Sunday April 27th.  Doors open at 1pm, bingo starts at 2pm.  Advanced tickets for $15 until April 18th for 20 games.  Cost of tickets after April 18th will be $20 for 20 games.  To purchase tickets, call 304-335-2291

Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for Tyler Pifer

Children's Free Reading Hour

The Elkins Randolph County Library reading hour for 3 and 4 year olds and caregivers continues until Memorial Day 2014 (except for holidays).  The free reading hour is from 10:30a-11:30a in the downstairs reading room.  Including reading, coloring or other activities and a snack.  Children must be accompanied by legal caregivers.

GFWC Junior Woman's Club Raffle

The GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Elkins has 4 all access passes to the Greenbrier Classic which includes the two concerts of Maroon 5 on July 4th and Jimmy Buffett on July 5th. We are going to raffle all 4 tickets off in one package and the raffle tickets will be $10 each and we will be drawing the winner on Saturday, May 24th. If you would like raffle tickets, you can contact us either by emailing us at gfwcelkinsjuniors@yahoo.com, by Face book on the event page called Raffle for Greenbrier Classic Golf and Maroon 5 & Jimmy Buffett Concert Passes or by calling Kathie Staten at (304)621-0379. You can also do mail orders for your tickets, all you have to do is let us know how many raffle tickets you want and your address and phone number and send us your check for the amount owed. You can mail your check to GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Elkins c/o The Greenbrier Classic Raffle Drawing PO Box 505 Elkins, WV 26241 and make your checks payable to GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Elkins.  A spokesperson for the Greenbrier Classic said these concerts would be a sell out.  The proceeds from this raffle will help the GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Elkins to provide a college scholarship to one Randolph County female senior, sponsor an EHS Junior to Girls State, provide an apprenticeship scholarship to the Old Brick Playhouse, support our Relay for Life team, and also help provide funding for the Hugh OBrien Youth Scholarship.

Rock 'n' Run

Elkins YMCA Pool Fundraiser

The Elkins YMCA is raising money to renovate and re-open the pool.  The facility has been closed since April 2013 due to significant roof damage. We have $300,000 left to raise and you can help by purchasing a Booster t-shirt.  Stop by the Y and help us get to our goal! Stopss.....
