Northern WV Model Train Show

The Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society and the Clarksburg Area Model Railroad Club present the Northern WV Model Train Show on Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st from Noon to 5pm and Sunday, September 1st from 10am to 4pm at the Rowlesburg Ambulance Hall & Community Building in Preston County. Yard Waste Collection Schedule

The City of Elkins curb-side Yard Waste Collection is underway; The final pick-up will be on September 2.  Yard waste will be collected as quickly as possible but it varies as to how much time it takes in each ward – due to this fact, residents of all wards are being asked to have their yard waste out by the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the above-stated collection dates; if we don’t get it that day, we will get it in the next day or two - depending on how much time the current collection is taking. 

Acceptable items include:  grass, tree, & shrub trimmings; vegetative landscaping materials; leaves & hay; plant debris; branches & brush up to 2 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length.

Unacceptable items include:  plastics; treated wood; construction/demolition debris; household trash; animal waste; non-organic material; yard waste containing concrete, rocks, sod, or dirt; anything over 50 pounds.

Residents may also take Yard Waste to the Waste Water Collection & Transmission Department (located at 31 Jones Drive / 304-636-2058) Mondays – Fridays from 6am – 2pm.. 

Library Summer Hours

Elkins Public Library will be closed on Saturdays during the summer, the five day schedule continues until after Labor Day. The library will be open from 10am to 9pm Monday through Friday.

 

Women in the Outdoors

Women in the Outdoors, Saturday, Sept. 6, Izaak Walton Clubhouse, 6 miles straight up Files Creek Road, Beverly, registration starting 8:30am, event 9:00. The Tygart Valley Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting their first Women in the Outdoors Event. Registration Fee for non-members will be $35.00. Activities will be Dutch oven cooking, Skeet & Pistol Shooting & Archery. You may pre-register by calling Don Thomason at #304-636-6454 (p.m.) if no answer please leave message. Rain or shine, bring jacket. Lunch will be provided. Opened to all women 18 and over. Come and spend a day with us!

Benefit Spaghetti Dinner in Buckhannon

First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon will have a spaghetti dinner to benefit Crosslines on Friday, September 12th from 5pm to 7pm. The menu will consist of spaghetti and sauce (with or without meat), salad, bread, drinks and a choice of homemade desserts. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. Children under 2 will eat free.

Cake Walk in Valley Head

Cake Walk, Sept. 13th, 6:00pm, Valley Head Fire House. This is our monthly fundraiser. All proceeds will go to the Valley Head Fire Dept. 

Walk to End Alzheimer's

Walk to End Alzheimer's, Sept. 13, 8:30am Registration, River bend Park. Anyone can come walk. Registration will last until 10:00am. You can also go to alz.org/wv for more information.

Pampered Chef Bingo

Pampered Chef Bingo, September 14, 2:00pm, Leading Creek Vol. Fire Dept. This is a fundraiser to benefit Tumble Time Gymnastics Competition Team. We would like to send them to Disney World in Florida to compete at the ESPN Center.
